這是繼 " The childhood of Jesus" 後 又ㄧ本令人困惑但回味無窮的小說。還入圍了Booker Prize long list.
我們很清楚 Coetzee 在書寫哲學。文字簡練,幾乎無形容辭。"風景如Ikea 般輕薄建構" (the scenery is so flimsily assembled that it could come straight from Ikea,the Guardian, ref 1)
精髓在對話。意旨在人生何為。Coetzee借 殺人犯Dimitri 的passion 對照宛如模範生,謹言慎行的父親角色,看來是作者自己兩個人格的對話。如同Disgrace ,令人想像寡言無趣的Coetzee 化身為渴望親密關係的教授。亦如 The Master of Petersburg ,我們看到喪子的Coetzee 悲傷之情。
在這兩本以耶穌為名的小說, 資本主義不存在的烏托邦社會,凸顯的是人的關係和感情。
期待還有第三本成人的耶穌。
